Luther said, “While it is faith alone that justifies, the faith that justifies is never alone”. Evangelicals have been struggling with the nature of saving faith or the kind of faith that produces salvation. Coming from India, where karma or good works are exalted towards one’s future or eternal state, this Christian doctrine needs to be re-clarified. Is it faith plus works or faith minus works? And what exactly is the proper faith that works? Are we saved by one kind of faith in God and then kept by another kind?
